Checkups

So in an attempt to kick start my writing more, I have been peddling my journal in different places and welcome any and all new readers! I promise that updates happen more frequently if I get feedback ;)

in any case, I have been sick again and I blame the weather on my lack of motivation to get up off the couch and do something more productive than take in hours upon hours of assorted Elmo discussions with my 22 month old. Some days I go out and look at the weeds that have been sprouting rampantly in my little garden and at the skyrocketing gas prices that are slowly making driving around a prohibitive luxury and feel a bit overwhelmed with the little things. And yet, somehow, things are not as dire as they might once have seemed and I do not feel like I am being swallowed up by the things that are beyond my control.

I went in to see my doctor for my routine 28 week checkup and although I had a landry list of moans and groans related to my pregnancy (to which she said I might have to lay down for the afternoons most days) but when i inquired if I was ill enough to qualify for sick benefits through EI, she said that I dont fit the "normal" profile and would therefore probably have an uphill battle in trying to get anything at all. So there it is, too sick to work, not sick enough to be paid for not working. Which I suppose I might have expected but I think that I was holding out some hope that it might be different. Still, I have the luxury of being able to stay home anyway and in the end that is all that really matters.

Julia has caught a bit of my cold and has a cough that sounds really bad when it rears its ugly head. Thankfully it only does at some points of the days and other than being a bit clingy and wanting to be held all the time, she continues to develop and grow right before my very eyes. We have an appointment with an allergy specialist on Tuesday to see if she really does have a penecillin allergy, since she had such a reaction to the amoxicillan she took for ther Urinary Tract Infection way back when. It will be interesting to see what turns up and boy am I excited about having to hold her down for the 3 or 4 needles in her arm.

Her current obsession is with giraffes and carries them around with her wherever she goes. She has begun developing more imaginative plays with her toys, playing out a tableau of wild animal goodness along the fireplace hearth as I sit here on the computer beside her. The gallop and eat and kiss one another, every so often making their way over to me to have a "seep and kiss" as she stuffs them in the crook of my arms.

I would talk more about how i am marvelling every day at her language development but i have been planning a separate entry about that for while and I promise to get written before the week is out. But for now I am off to snivel a bit and see if lunch is ready to go.
