Dr Teeth tagged me to do this meme on Wednesday but since I didnt actually check his blog until today, I didnt know about it until now. But fortunately, party planning is over and I have sleeping children so here we go:
Number of Books I Own: Good grief, I have no idea. Best guesstimate: 5 bookshelves crammed full. So...300?
Last book I bought not including textbooks: No more textbooks to be bought in this household (unless something drastic changes-wait, I think maybe I would classify parenting books as textbooks, no?) so I think it was a Dr.Seuss book called There's a Wocket in my Pocket. However, if the intention of the question is what was the last book I bought for myself I think it would be Thomas King's Green Grass, Running Water
Last books I read: Currently reading Green Grass, Running Water
This isnt What I Expected: Overcoming Postpartum Depression by Karen Kleiman and Valerie Raskin
Preschool Confidential by Sandi K. Shelton (actually an amusing anecdotal essay described aptly as "The Dave Barry of motherhood")
Five Books that Mean a Lot to Me: (in no particular order)
(a)Building Blocks by Cynthia Voigt. My favourite book growing up. I dont really know what it was about it that made me read it until it was dog eared and falling to pieces, but there it is.
(b) The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran. My kind of philosophy and in the most beautiful images painted with words. Spiritual without being preachy. Well it is preachy but not in the "from the pulpit" kind of way.
(c)The Twelve Gifts of Birth by Charlene Costanzo. A very recent addition to my bookshelf but one that embodies many of the things I hold dear in my heart
(d)The Golden Compass by Phillip Pullman. I have never been drawn into a world so intensely as I was with this novel. My favourite book ever.
(e)Words I Wish I Wrote" by Robert Fulghum. One of my favourite authors and one of the key inspirations for continuing to work on the craft of writing. All of his books fall under my "words I wish I wrote" category.
