OK, so it has been a week of excitment and adventure because...Julia started potty training!!! Last Saturday she just decided that she was done and annonced in the monring, "Mom, I dont want to wear diapers anymore." So I looked at her carefully to see how serious she was and when I saw how earnestly she wanted to move on, how adamant she was against wearing a diaper (even for the drive to the store) I knew that she really was ready to set out on this next phase of growing up.
So, since I didnt have anything but diapers for her to wear we got into the car (sans diaper) and she got to pick out her first pairs of "big girl pants". Naturally she chose a package of Dora underwear but I threw in a package of Fruit of the Looms because a 6 pack cost as much as a 3 pack of Doras and I wasnt sure how many accidents to expect along the way.
As it turned out, she only had 4 accidents--one when she didnt realize that she had to go to the bathroom when she had to pee *and* poop, and the others when she was in daycare and simply didnt get to the toilet in time (once while she was outside all bundled up and the others while in line at the bathroom).
In the evening, I asked if she wanted to wear a diaper to sleep but she refused saying that she wouldnt wet the bed and that she was going to wear her big girl Dora pants, thank you very much. So I let her. She's been dry at night in her diaper anyway for months so I couldnt see it changing. And she has done beautifully! I am so proud of her accomplishments and so relieved that it has gone this smoothly. I worried for so long that she simply didnt want to potty train and that she would be in diapers forever but I am thrilled to say that I was wrong and with bittersweet irony, my baby is growing up that much faster.
