Remembering

Has it really been two years? Has it been two years of waking up and wondering whether today would be the day that they come back? Wondering if today's the day that they find Osama Bin Laden? Two years since the world as we knew it changed forever?

Has it been two years of ridiculous ideas like "freedom fries"? Two years of mocking "W" for his grandiose plans to make the United States the penultimate power of the planet? Of undermining the role of the United Nations?

Two years of "war on terror", two years of anger, of sorrow, of sad remembrance? Has it been two years of showing solidarity against all odds, of experiencing the kindness of neighbours firsthand, of finding support in the unexpected corners of our lives, of searching for the person who made a difference in that day, the Dons of our lives?

Because here in my little corner of the world, nobody cringed when airplanes flew overhead and the radio and television programs were not constantly interrupted by CNN live bulletins. If you went outside today, the sun was shining, the wind was a bit brisk, the childen laughed and life seemed to be as normal as apple pie.

And maybe it is normal now.
