xeryfyn's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A Decision I'M MOVING!!!! Yes, we had a not-so-quiet discussion with the landlord on the telephone this afternoon and we hashed out exactly what is going to happen at the end of February. He lamented the possibility of not having a tenant after four months of looking in one of his other properties and reasoned that he might not be able to rent out the house after two months of looking (hence the two month penalty). He went back and forth over wanting us to stay until he *was* able to find a new renter AND wanting us to pay the $1600 penalty. One of the big sticking points for him was the possibility of getting stuck with utility bills on top of mortgage payments and so after back and forth arguing (mostly on my side--I nearly had a nervous breakdown on the phone with him about the lady downstairs) he made the agreement to accept the $1600 penalty if we would also agree to pay part of the utilities UNTIL he found a new tenant. We agreed to pay half of the gas bill (to cover the main floor heating) and 25% of the electricity (since, apparently it was unacceptable to have both utilities in the lady downstairs' name alone) until he found a tenant. AND had his word that he would begin on Monday to look for someone to take over the place. I think that it wont be as difficult as he let on to find someone new, but then again, he's ultra-picky about the people he screens. Personally, while it isnt the greatest deal in the world, I like that it is all settled, that I know exactly what is happening and what is expected of us, and of him. I like knowing that we will not be subjected to a lawsuit at some mysterious time and not just because we would not have had any control over the outcome of that possibility. I am just so thrilled that we will be out of here at the end of February, that it has all been settled before the start of the lunar new year and my birthday! Now I can pack in peace and rest knowing that I will soon be free of this nightmare.
